So it has been quite some time since I have updated my blog. My new year's resoloution is to keep up with it. I have tons of new Zumba wear, and I will hopefully be getting pictures up soon. In the meantime, here are the highlights of my year;
February 2013-became AFAA certified, and I started teaching classes OTHER than Zumba. This includes Boot Camp, Cardio Circuit, CORE, and a strength training class called Above and Below The Belt. It's nice to branch out! I also started teaching at two other facilities--Anytime Fitness Pantops, and Carver Recreation Center.
April-Finally took B2 training, and since it was at Golds Gym, I got to work with (and dance on stage with) April Smiles Smith. She is so amazing, and so inspirational!!
May-became the team leader for the Golds Gym Zumba team! Woot! I am in charge of coordinating the Zumba launches. Go me!
December-Applied to be a Zumba Jammer. I doubt I'll get it, but the experience was so worth it!
It seemed like a lot more happened this year, but it's been pretty uneventful Zumba-wise. I mean, other than the fact that I teach 7-10 classes a week! I look forward to all the new things that are coming in the year 2014, and I will keep everyone posted! Hopefully 2014 includes more Zumba classes, more of my other classes, and many more certifications (Toning, Pro Skills, Sentao, Step and AFAA Personal Trainer!) Stay tuned!!

Moving On Up!
Lots of exciting new things happening! First, I got my own class (No subbing!) at Golds Gym. This is awesome, and I'm very excited to start next month. The Zumba instructors there are AMAZING, and I know Golds has a high standard of what they expect from instructors, so I'm really looking forward to meeting those expectations.
Lets see, while we are on the subject of Golds Gym, we hosted a Zumbathon event to benefit The Red Cross, Hurricane Sandy relief. I was very excited to be able to participate in an event that was so near and dear to my heart. The energy was AMAZING, lots of people showed up, and I didn't stop dancing (or, let me say I COULDN'T stop dancing)for 3 hours!! We raised $1188 total, which was an awesome donation.
Two of my students from Anytime Fitness wound up coming to the Zumbathon. It was nice to see some familiar faces in the sea of people. They just started Zumba, and they are both very enthusiastic about it. It was so great to have them. One of them won a t-shirt! This is the best part--in class last night, not only did she wear the t-shirt with pride, but she and her friend BOTH stood in the front row, instead of the back. I felt like a proud momma watching that transformation unfold before my eyes!
Stay tuned, there's lots more excitement in the works!

Wednesday's Woe
I know, I know....it's Thursday, but Wednesday sounds so much better. Anyway, I know there is no rhyme or reason to it, but sometimes it's hard to take things personal when you have a night with low attendance. I know it's because this class in particular is at a funky time, and it's hard for people to make it, but I start to think of all the things that could possibly be going wrong. Do I have to change my play list? Do they not like my choreography? Are people just sleepy? I guess people don't realize how much blood sweat and tears go into teaching Zumba classes. I have hardly any free time anymore. BUT, a special surprise arrived in the mail yesterday, and there is nothing like new Zumba wear to make you feel like a million bucks! I posted a few of my favorite pics of my new swag.
Pointing at my favorite part of the pants....the sparkles!!!
Sparkly Velour track pants, and my new ZumbAtomic Instructor jacket
Zu...zu..zu...zumbatomic track jacket!
This is how new Zumba wear makes me feel!

My First ZumbAtomic Class
Well, my first ZumbAtomic class didn't go so well, but I accomplished my goal of Demo-ing the class to the owners of the Dojo I work for. So all was not lost. When I first walked in to the Halloween party, I was so excited! The room was full of 4-8 year olds. The PERFECT age for the song I was going to use, and for the game I was going to play with them (Center Star, for all my ZumbAtomic peeps). At the very last minute a slew of 14/15 year old boys walked in, and I knew I was done for. The time came for my ZumbAtomic class....which we renamed Zombietomic for the occasion, and it started off well, but the boys were being so loud that they scared most of the little kids away. Strangely enough the older boys were into the dance. Probably because I told them they would get electrocuted half way through the song.
Anyway all was not lost, and even though I cut the class short the owners still want to start doing a ZumbAtomic session in December (probably). They also had a meeting with the Orange County parks and rec, and they said that the parks and rec department was sooooo excited that we were open because they get calls about Zumba every single day! They also are going to do all the advertising for free, and that INCLUDES sending kids home from school with information about the Dojo AND my ZumbAtomic, and Zumba classes. Woot! I hope to be very busy soon!! Here are some pics of my ZumbAtomic participants (and you can see the little kids backed up against the wall in fright LOL)
